This year, the City will install 23 km of on-street bike routes. It’s part of a larger plan to install close to 500 km of on-street facilities in future years to create an integrated bicycle network. This will make it easier for Edmontonians to cycle more often and connect to the places they want to go.
A bike route can either be a reserved bike lane on the road, or a shared-use lane where cyclists and motorists have to share space on the road. Depending on the characteristics of each route, installing a bike route may involve narrowing lane widths, reducing the number of lanes, closing a road or removing parking.
On February 12 and 20, our team will be holding meetings to share information and get your feedback about the plans. Public input will help identify any unknown issues we need to consider before finalizing the plans.
